BIRTHDAY CUT OFF DATES:

·         For Baseball players born between May 1, 2005 and August 31, 2005, the cutoff date is April 30th

o    Example: if your child turns 12 years between 05/01/05 & 08/31/05 then your child is considered a baseball 12 year old.

·         For Baseball players born after August 31, 2005, the cutoff date is August 31st  (this is a change starting in the 2015 season as per Little League Congress)

o    Example: your child turns 8 years old on May 25th then your child is a baseball 8 year old

           2018 LITTLE LEAGUE BASEBALL AGE CHART

·         For all Softball, the cutoff date is December 31st  of the previous year

o    Example: your child turns 12 on March 1st then your child is considered a softball 11 year old


Baseball

MAJORS BASEBALL
Ten, Eleven and Twelve year olds.  Evaluations are required to be eligible for this division and placement is subject to draft selection. Teams are formed by manager draft the week following evaluations.  Williamsport rules apply   Games are played at Burnham Park Majors Field. 

·         Uniforms - MNLL provides: Hat, 3 button shirt, and socks.  Parents should provide:  Baseball pants (managers decision gray or white), baseball glove, bat, bat bag, cleats, and a water bottle.

·         Practice - Starts mid-March to the beginning of April depending on the weather and fields. Teams are encouraged to have 2 weekday practices and 1 weekend practice.

·         Games - Start mid-April through mid June. There is 1 weekday (at 6:00PM) and 1 weekend game per week.  Games are played at Burnham Park Majors Field.

 

MINORS AAA BASEBALL

Nine (with one year completed of Minor AA), Ten, and Eleven year olds.  (Also, will consider Eight year olds but they must have 1-year Minor AA and 1-year Minor A experience to be eligible and placement is subject to coaches evaluation, space availability and draft selection. This must be approved by Baseball Player Agent prior to evaluations).  Evaluations are required for all, Teams are formed by manager draft from a pool of available players. The Minor AAA draft is held following the Majors draft.   This Division is competitive, standings are maintained, and the season culminates in playoffs.   Official Little League Rules of Play are followed, with a few exceptions (ex. Max 5 runs per team per inning).  Minimum required playing time is 2 innings in the field.  The batting line-up consists of all players at the game regardless if they are currently in an on-field position or not. 

*** 2018 Special Rule:  12 year old players may play in AAA under modified Little League rules.  Please contact MNLL Baseball Player Agents (email ) if you would like your child to stay in AAA.

  • Practice - Starts late-March to the beginning of April depending on the weather and fields. Teams are encouraged to have 2 weekday practices and 1 weekend practice
  • Games - Start mid-April through mid June. There is 1 weekday (at 6:00PM) and 1 weekend game per week.  Games are played at Burnham Park Minors AAA Field or Community Park in Morris Plains


MINOR AA BASEBALL
Nine and Eight year olds. (Will consider Seven year olds if they have already had a year of Minor A instructional and 1-year Tee Ball.  The parent must request consideration and player will be evaluated for Minor AA.)  Teams records are maintained thru out the season.  Minor AA maintains instructional focus and encourages kids to start pitching during games.  Season ends all teams competing in a seeded tournament.  Teams are formed by committee, taking into account skill levels, player age and gender. Official Little League Rules of Play (used at the Majors and Minor AAA levels) are substantially modified (within accepted LL guidelines) to facilitate the games.  Most games are played at Kiwanis Field. 

·         Uniforms - MNLL provides: Hat, T-shirt and socks.  Parents should provide:  Baseball pants (managers decision gray or white), baseball glove, bat, bat bag, cleats, and a water bottle.

·         Practice - Starts approximately the beginning of April depending on the weather and fields. Teams are encouraged to have 1 weekday practice and some weekend practices.

·         Games - Start mid-April through mid June. There is 1 weekday (at 6:00PM) and 1 weekend game per week. Games are played at Kiwanis Field.


MINOR A INSTRUCTIONAL BASEBALL
Six and Seven year olds (eights by parental request); Six year olds must have completed one year of T-Ball.  No tryouts, no division standings, coach pitch, reinforces clinic skills and adds on.  T’s are not used (unless necessary).  Official Little League Rules of Play (used at the Majors and Minor AAA levels) are substantially modified (within accepted LL guidelines) to facilitate the games.  The principal consideration in forming teams is geography; we try to have youngsters play with other kids from their neighborhoods.  May be combined with Clinic depending on the number of registrations of the combined divisions.  Most games are played at Butterworth Field. 

·         Uniforms - MNLL provides: Hat, T-shirt and socks.  Parents should provide:  Grey baseball pants, baseball glove, bat, bat bag, cleats, and a water bottle.

·         Practice - Starts approximately the beginning of April depending on the weather and fields. Teams are encouraged to have 1 weekday practice and some weekend practices.

·         Games - Start mid-April through mid June. There is 1 weekend game per week. Games are played at Butterworth Field.


SOFTBALL

Juniors Softball

Thirteen to Fifteen year olds. (Also, will consider Twelve year olds but they must have 1-year Majors experience to be eligible and placement is subject to coaches evaluation, space availability and draft selection). Real softball with no limiting rules. 10 field players to allow for greater participation.  Wide range of skills across the county.  We play against teams from surrounding league (ex. Parsippany, Hanover, Morris Plains).  

·         Uniforms - MNLL provides: Softball Jersey and socks. Parents should provide:  Softball pants, softball glove, bat, bat bag, cleats, and a water bottle.

·         Practice - Starts mid-March to the beginning of April depending on the weather and fields.  Teams are encouraged to have 2 weekday practices and 1 weekend practice.

·         Games - Start mid-April through mid June.  There is 1 weekday (at 6:00PM) and 1 weekend game per week.  Home games are played at Veterans Field.


Majors Softball:

Eleven and Twelve year olds Official Little League Rules of Play are followed, with a few exceptions. Players get a minimum 3 innings in the field each game, we play 10 in the field.

Minors Softball:

Nine and Ten year olds.  (Eleven year olds can play Minors based on evaluation and/or parents request.) Beginner game softball.  Modified rules (ex. maximum 5 runs per inning and very limited stealing) to allow kids to pitch while managing game and inning length.  Pitchers are encouraged to try and to grow with practice.  Teams are generally kept small to make sure players get as much exposure as possible.  All players bat in the lineup and every player must play 3 innings in the field and we play with 10 in the field.  We also play some games against teams from Morris Plains. Usually 14 games, plus playoffs and a practice scheduled each week.

·         Uniforms - MNLL provides: Visors, Team t-shirt and socks. Parents should provide:  Softball pants, softball glove, bat, bat bag, cleats, and a water bottle.

Instructional Softball:

Seven and Eight year olds.  Introduction to softball.  Players may have played tee ball or coach-pitch baseball.  Practice and repetition is the emphasis so the players learn how to throw, catch, and swing a bat correctly.  We play coach-pitch games and some players may pitch toward the end of the season if they are ready.  Very controlled environment to make sure learning is the focus and not game results.  No results or standings are kept.

  • Uniforms - MNLL provides: Visors, Team t-shirt and socks. Parents should provide:  Softball pants, softball glove, bat, bat bag, cleats, and a water bottle.
