Morris County Challenger League Day at Burnham Park - April 23rd

Morristown National Little League will once again be hosting the Morris County Challenger League (http://www.mccll.org/) on SUNDAY, APRIL 23th @ 2:00pm.  The Challenger League offers an athletic league experience for handicapped kids of all ages and levels of ability.  The kids have Cerebral Palsy, varying levels of autism, muscular dystrophy, and other serious challenges, but you'd never know it from their attitudes.  MNLL has proudly hosted the opening day for this league for several years, it is one of the highlights of our season.  If you haven't seen or participated in one of these events you are missing something truly special, and it definitely something that MNLL kids will never forget being a part of.

The Day:
MCCLL has multiple teams--four of them are younger kids and two with age 13 and up teen-age kids.  The Challenger League relies on the host league (MNLL/Morristown Babe Ruth) to supply a large number of its league players as volunteer "buddies" to shepherd the younger Challenger League kids through the game.

That said, we need our MNLL softball and baseball players, AGE 10 AND UP, in uniform at the games.  The first games are at 2:00pm and will match the younger Challenger teams against each other.  You will never forget the sight of a kid in a wheelchair hitting a ball and being pushed around the bases (sometimes on one wheel!) by one of their MNLL player Buddies.

The second games are at 4:00pm, these games will match the older and most able of the Challenger kids against teams composed of MNLL players.  The MNLL teams will be handicapped by some special rules to even things out (Let's just say our kids have never won one of these games!).  Please arrive by 12:45 so there's time to get the buddies organized and for everyone to get instructions on exactly how this all works.

Game Schedule: 2pm TB Mets vs Pirates  /  Athletics vs Red Sox

4pm Mets vs MNLL Buddies   /   Yankees vs MNLL Buddies

In addition, we need:

·  Volunteers to run the snack stand. PLEASE CONTACT DIANE KAY at   to schedule time.

·  Volunteers to prepare both the majors and the minors fields at Burnham.

·  A team of adult volunteers to act as “Buddy Coordinators” for each field/game.

·  An avid photographer, willing to take some shots to be shared with both leagues.

Our MNLL players who have done this in the past never forget it, many have done it 2 or more times and look forward to the opportunity.  It's a great way to help remind us how lucky we are and teach our MNLL players some valuable lessons.

We are happy to announce the return of the MNLL pitcher training program which is offered free of charge to all AA and AAA players who are interested in taking the mound.  Coaches and parents are also encouraged to observe to create a common understanding of basic pitching mechanics along with drills that reinforce the skills.  The goal is to help avoid arm injuries for our young pitchers and to boost the quality of play, which in turn boosts the enjoyment of the game for all.

3/14 & 3/16, 7-8pm, Frelinghuysen Old Gym

3/21 & 3/23, 7:30-8:30pm, Frelinghuysen Old Gym

4/18 & 4/20, 7:30-8:30pm, Frelinghuysen Old Gym

4/25 & 4/27, 7:30-8:30pm, Frelinghuysen Old Gym

IMPORTANT NOTE: The first session of each week is designed for new/developing participants who must attend the first session of each week before they can attend the second sessions which are designed for experienced players.  This helps us avoid diluting the training for both types of players and can provide appropriate pace for attendees.
